Before and After: Edwardian Flat, Bathroom
The first Modern Vic project at our Edwardian Flat client’s home was to renovate the main bathroom.
Our clients had fallen in love with the original marble sink top, but the rest of the details and overall design left a lot to be desired. The original layout didn’t use the space very efficiently, with a large closet to the left of the bathtub that housed a 40-year-old furnace. It took up about 1/3 of the usable space in the room.
The Modern Vic got to work with Levine Architects to reconfigure the space. We came up with a plan to move a new furnace into the upper attic space utilize all of the space in the bathroom.
We had the contractor carefully remove the original marble sink and re-purposed it as a console sink to keep the space feeling open and provide a beautiful focal point as you entered the room.
To infuse this space with more original-feeling Edwardian charm, we used marble hex and a classic subway wall tile. A new, deep bathtub was enclosed with a custom wood face to match the huge floor-to-ceiling storage cabinet we installed in the old vanity location. Both of these customized wood pieces were built by MB Carpentry.
