About The Modern Vic

The Modern Vic is the manifestation of Founder and Principal Designer Sarah Stern-Benoit’s lifetime love of history, Bay Area architecture, and creating stunning spaces.

The Modern Vic took root in Sarah’s own childhood homes. Growing up with parents who actively lived in and restored Bay Area fixer-uppers, she saw for herself the power of transformation.

Sarah’s passion for interior design has been cultivated through numerous renovation projects over the years, honing the skills that make The Modern Vic so successful: careful attention to detail, extraordinary project management, and a deadline-driven focus. Sarah makes sure every home renovation goes smoothly and is executed beautifully—whether it’s a full home redesign or a one-room refresh.

Here at The Modern Vic, we hold firm to the belief in the potential for remarkable transformation, appreciation for architectural heritage, and the passion for giving clients the support they need to realize their own beautiful spaces.

We give clients the ability to gracefully incorporate their own design voice into their spaces while honoring the design elements of the house.

We believe trust and transparency are crucial to executing a project successfully because your home is not only your domain - it’s also your most important investment.

The Modern Vic is committed to doing whatever it takes to make your project go smoothly so that at the end of our work together, you’ll have a home you love to share with family and friends.

By practicing these values, we are able to help our clients’ design dreams turn into spaces that reflect timeless elegance that withstands trends.

“I’m passionate about creating beautiful spaces, where every detail is thoughtfully curated and the design tells the story of the house and the people who love to live in it.”

“Sarah is a true visionary. She’s a great listener, open and honest, and was conscientious of keeping my preferences in mind throughout the design process. If you are looking for an interior designer, look no further.”
